Cloe is doing GREAT, taking very good care of her babies...she looked like one of her teets were swelling and so I put warm compress on it and drained it some...seems to be doing much better today...there is ONE puppy that was peaking one eye open today so maybe by tomorrow...usually day 12...Have to trim all puppies nails tonight as they are getting like little needles...I'm sure Cloe will appreciate this too! Next time they are kneeding the milk bar their little claws wont cut into her... :) Have a few scheduled visits this coming weekend and excited to meet the new parents...

Cloe's puppies are about 5 days and gaining weight and growing...There are a few that have hit the 1 pound mark! :) they were about 8-10 ozs. when they were born, so almost doubled their weight in the first 5 days...Cloe had to get the good ole pumpkin bowl because even though I was in there with her, she ate all the placentas and that keep dad up all night taking her out to potty! Pumpkin bowl and she was back to her ole self the next day...She gets VERY excited running in circles if someone comes to our door, she wants to show off her puppies to EVERYONE! I'm not allowing visitors really, just family that has come over and they do get to peek in the nursery to see them....Had a few people back out, and so now she still has two merles and the last little black one with the hint of white on her paws available...email me if you are interested! :)
After 14 hours of labor, Cloe has finally had all her pups! She really worked hard this litter...We have 6 healthy puppies... 3 Blue Merles, and 3 Black tris/black&white...3 girls, and 3 boys...I promised I would update as soon as possible, so now I'm going to bed, its after 2 am and it was a VERY long day! :)
Cloe is still laboring....she got out of her box once to go pee and right back in...she does not want me to leave her so I just wanted to update everyone real quick...she has been hard at work since 8:30 this morning...I am a night owl, so I will post pics right away...Please say a little prayer she goes soon, she just looks so worn out...until later...
Cloe is in labor! Vet has been notified! She has ripped apart all the nice fresh paper I laid out in her box, but hey, I'm not gonna complain! :) She is panting HARD and licking nonstop now...Bless her heart she looks worn out...I'm sitting with her, petting her, holding her paw and telling her what a great momma she is...stay tuned...
Cloe has not had in the past the significant temperature drop like they always say happen which indicates a dog going into labor...She has always had a lower temp than what is considered normal.. She will not come out of her whelping box this morning...and I just checked her temp...98.4 BIG DROP!!! First time for that! So I think we are getting the show on the road FINALLY! Was going to run into town real quick while the neighbor watched her, but dont think that would be best now seeing her...stay tuned!!! :)
We have officially past her due date by a day...Which isnt a huge deal unless you are on pins and needles waiting for this wonderful event! She ate a couple of bites for breakfast, not much but really does not want the other dogs NEAR her...she is just wanting to lay ALONE...She stayed in her box yesterday for a good part of the day, so I know she is getting really close...I will TRY to refrain from calling my vet AGAIN...lol She is resting, and is calm for now...Will keep everyone updated...stay tuned...
Spoke with Cloe's vet again today, he said because of her showing early signs, dogs like humans can experience "braxton hicks" and that could have been what she has been experiencing over the last several days...Not to panic that she could go another 5 days! GREAT! That was really not what I wanted to hear but really already knew that! lol Poor Cloe, I hope for her sake she doesnt have 5 more days of this! She mated longer than last time so she could have ovulated later too according to the vet...So again WE WAIT.... :-)
Well today is Cloe's due date...She is pretty much at the same pace as she has been since Sat. slow going...Every time she starts heavy panting and looking like things might me moving forward, she slows and stops...She is actually eating right now...not sure how much she will eat...Will keep everyone updated... |
